What Does a Website Cost for a Clanfield Business? One-Off, Monthly or DIY
Ask three web designers what a website costs and you will get three answers that cannot be compared, because each is charging in a different way. Here is how to line them up, and one fixed price we can state because it is our own.
A website for a Clanfield business is paid for in one of three ways: a monthly rental, a one-off build fee, or a subscription to a do-it-yourself builder. Prices differ from designer to designer, so ask each for a written quote and whether you will own the site. One fixed price nearby is the £500 one-off build from Dean Keating in Horndean, the publisher of Clanfield.co, which you own outright with no monthly fee.

We are not going to print a price range for other people's businesses. We cannot check their prices, and a made-up range would not help you.
What we can do is explain the three ways a website is charged for, because the charging method decides what you have paid by the end of year three. We can also give one firm figure, because it is our own. Dean Keating, who publishes Clanfield.co from Horndean, builds websites for £500 one-off. You own the site outright, there is no contract or monthly fee, and it comes with 200+ pages and 12 months of SEO. See the £500 website build.
Paying monthly
A rental deal asks for little or nothing at the start and then a fee every month. It is easy to say yes to, and the fee often covers hosting and small changes.
Check who owns the site. With many rental deals it belongs to the provider, so when you stop paying, the site goes. Multiply the monthly fee by 36 before you compare it with a one-off price, and ask whether there is a minimum term.
Paying once
With a one-off build you pay for the site to be designed and built, and it is yours. After that you pay the running costs, such as the domain name and hosting, and for any changes you ask for.
So ask what happens after launch. Who hosts it? What does that cost? What do changes cost?
Building it yourself
A website builder charges a subscription and you make the site yourself. It is the cheapest way to get something online and it suits a business that needs only a simple page.
You pay in time, and the result depends on your own skill. A builder site of a few pages will rarely appear for searches across several services and several places, which matters if you work in Horndean and Petersfield as well as Clanfield.
Why two quotes differ
Mostly it is size: how many pages, and whether there is one for each service and each area you cover. After that come the writing, the photography, any booking or payment features, and whether SEO after launch is included or charged on top.
Two quotes can only be compared if they cover the same things, so ask each designer for a list of what is included.
The questions to put to every designer
Do I own the website and the domain name? Is there a contract or a minimum term? What will I pay each month or each year once it is live? What do changes cost? Is SEO included, and for how long?
Where to get other quotes
Clanfield.co does not have its own ranking of web designers. Our sister site does: web designers in the Waterlooville area, ranked on Google reviews. It is a ranking for nearby Waterlooville, but it covers PO8 postcodes as well as PO7. Ask two or three of those firms for a written quote and set them beside a fixed price.
If you run a trade, our guide to websites for tradespeople covers what the site itself needs. If you are not sure you need one at all, start with do I need a website?
About this guide
Clanfield.co is published by Dean Keating, whose business builds the £500 websites mentioned here, so this guide describes our own service. We have not quoted other designers' prices because we cannot verify them. Ask each firm directly.
